چکیده

Fusarium culmorum is a ubiquitous soil-borne fungus able to cause foot and root rot and Fusarium head blight on different small-grain cereals, in particular wheat and barley. Many rhizospheric actinobacteria isolated from Ononis angustissima Lam. and Astragalus gombo Coss & Dur. were tested for their antagonism against different pathogenic microorganisms in vitro. Among 120 tested isolates, only six isolates (ON03, BI26, BI28, OR6, ON02 and BI15) present a potent antagonistic effect against tested bacterial and fungal pathogens. Cultural and chemical characteristic studies strongly suggested that these strains belong to the genus Streptomyces. All of the six Streptomyces spp. isolates produced relatively high levels of IAA and chitinase. Five Streptomyces spp. strains (BI15, BI26, BI28, ON03 and ON02) solubilize phosphate and four strains (BI15, BI26, ON03 and ON02) produced protease. The in vivo biocontrol assays revealed that the Streptomyces strains significantly promoted the growth of the wheat plants and showed greater suppression of Wheat Fusarium head blight (FHB) disease. All of the six Streptomyces spp. strains showing good effect in increasing seedling emergence of wheat. Our results show that the selected Streptomyces spp. from rhizosphere of Ononis angustissima and Astragalus gombo could be an interesting source for antimicrobial bioactive substances and can efficiently protect wheat against FHB disease.

Mapping and Expression Analysis of a Fusarium Head Blight Resistance Gene Candidate Pleiotropic Drug Resistance 5 (PDR5) in Wheat

Fusarium head blight (FHB) caused by Fusarium graminearum is a serious disease of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), through which grain quality losses are induced by fungal trichotecene mycotoxins such as deoxynivalenol (DON). A class of plasma membrane localized ABC transporter proteins related to the yeast PDR5 (pleiotropic drug resistance5) efflux pump seems to be responsible for partial resista...

Genetic Variation and Biological Control of Fusarium graminearum Isolated from Wheat in Assiut-Egypt

Fusarium graminearum Schwabe causes Fusarium head blight (FHB), a devastating disease that leads to extensive yield and quality loss of wheat and other cereal crops. Twelve isolates of F. graminearum were collected from naturally infected spikes of wheat from Assiut Egypt. These isolates were compared using SRAP. The results indicated distinct genetic groups exist within F. graminearum, and dem...

Utilization of chemical inducers of resistance and Cryptococcus flavescens OH 182.9 to reduce Fusarium head blight under greenhouse conditions

Four chemicals [salicylic acid (SA), sodium salt of salicylic acid (NaSA), isonicotinic acid (INA), and DL-b-amino-n-butyric acid (BABA)] and the yeast antagonist Cryptococcus flavescens (=C. nodaensis nomen nudum) OH 182.9 were evaluated separately or together for the ability to reduce Fusarium head blight (FHB) of wheat in the greenhouse. When sprayed onto wheat heads at 3 days prior to patho...

Biological Efficacy of Streptomyces sp. Strain BN1 against the Cereal Head Blight Pathogen Fusarium graminearum

Fusarium head blight (FHB) caused by the filamentous fungus Fusarium graminearum is one of the most severe diseases threatening the production of small grains. Infected grains are often contaminated with mycotoxins such as zearalenone and trichothecences. During survey of contamination by FHB in rice grains, we found a bacterial isolate, designated as BN1, antagonistic to F. graminearum. The st...

Resistance Gene Analog Polymorphism (RGAP) Markers Co-Localize with the Major QTL of Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) Resistance, Qfhs.ndsu-3BS in Wheat

Resistance gene analog polymorphism (RGAP) markers linked to Fusarium head blight resistance (FHB) and co-localize with Qfhs.ndsu-3BS were identified using F3 plants and F3:5 lines derived from a ‘Wangshuibai’ (resistant) / ‘Seri82’ (susceptible) cross. The mapping populations were genotyped using 50 degenerate primers designed based on the known R genes. Out of the 50 designed primer combinati...
